Erbium Laser Peel (Full or Fractional)

Full vs. Fractional — what’s the difference?

Full Erbium removes a continuous superficial layer for the most dramatic single-session change. Fractional creates micro-columns, leaving bridges of intact skin to speed healing. Expect similar results after ~2–3 fractional sessions compared to one full peel.

Downtime & healing

Fractional: mild redness and light flaking, typically 1–3 days (makeup usually next day if advised). Full peel: looks like a strong sunburn with a full layer peel for ~5 days; pinkness may persist 1–2 weeks. Strict moisturization and sun avoidance are key.

How many sessions do I need?

Full peel is often one-and-done for noticeable change. Fractional is typically planned as a series of 2–3 sessions spaced ~4 weeks apart to approach similar results. Your plan is personalized at consult.

What can it treat?

Texture irregularities, enlarged pores, fine-to-moderate lines, acne scarring, dyschromia, and sun damage on the face. Select cases may include neck, chest, or hands with adjusted settings.

Safety & candidacy

Not performed over active infections, open lesions, recent isotretinoin use, or uncontrolled medical conditions that impair healing. Erbium allows precise, water-targeted ablation with less thermal spread vs CO₂; settings and pretreatment are adjusted for your skin. Fitzpatrick IV–VI may require additional precautions.

Aftercare essentials

Keep skin continuously moisturized (occlusive barrier), cleanse gently, avoid picking, heat, and heavy exercise initially. Broad-spectrum SPF is mandatory once re-epithelialized. Antiviral/antibacterial prophylaxis may be recommended per history.

Benefits

  • Smoother texture & smaller-looking pores
  • Softens lines, acne scars, and sun damage
  • Choose downtime: full peel (5–7 days) or fractional (1–3 days)

FAQs

Does it hurt?

Topical or local anesthesia is used. You’ll feel heat with fractional; full peel is numbed for comfort. Cool air and post-care reduce sting/heat.

When do results show?

Early smoothing can appear within a week (post full-peel re-epithelialization); collagen remodeling and clarity improve for 6–12 weeks.

Combine with other treatments?

Yes—commonly paired with PRX-T33 (staggered timing), IPL (pigment/vessels), or Morpheus8 (deeper remodeling). Sequencing is planned at consult.

Areas treated

Primarily face; select cases include neck, chest, or hands with conservative settings and tailored recovery.

Risks

Temporary redness, swelling, crusting; rare risks include infection, scarring, prolonged erythema, or pigment shifts—minimized with prep, settings, and aftercare.
